Katy Perry dropped from Sesame Street after Protests from Parents
On Monday a clip of Katy Perry singing her song, Hot n Cold and begging Elmo to “play” with her was leaked onto the Internet. Parents were outraged by Perry’s low cut dress and proceeded to protest on various web forums, with one comment stating, “You are going to have to rename Sesame Street, Cleavage Avenue”.
In light of these protests, producers on Sesame Street have decided not to use the segment, instead putting out a statement:
“In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on You Tube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or caregiver. We also value our viewer’s opinions and particularly those of parents.”
With Perry responding with:
“Kayy enjoyed working with Sesame Street and playing dress up with Elmo.”
All publicity is good publicity so they say, so this escapade will probably not do Perry any harm, after all, the You Tube site received a couple of millions hits, but her PR team could probably have thought a little bit harder on what she should wear on a children’s show.
What do you think?
